Drawing and painting have been a constant in my life since I was a young girl. As with many traditionally trained artists my pursuits began with intensive drawing; however, in my teens I was put off by conventional art instruction. I briefly studied art at North Georgia College in 1995 before deciding to change my major and transfer to the University of Georgia.
Ten years later, in London, I was lucky enough to earn a commission for a book cover, and decided to give art school another try. I studied on a small, 1 year course, at Kensington and Chelsea College and received a diploma in Creative Painting/Drawing.
I recently returned home to Georgia after living in the UK for 4 years. I've been busy setting up my studio space in Athens, Georgia and hope to have some new paintings to share soon.
Passion is key to my art and I only paint what moves me on an emotional level. 'Colour,' is no doubt one of my long standing passions. Many of my early works were abstract and used a combination of bold, intense colour with stark textures to evoke an emotional response. This is still a theme that I return to from time to time.
My other great passion is the natural world. My subjects sometimes vary from the microscopic to the expanse of the universe, and often reflect influences from my life. In recent years I've turned my attention to 'earth' or more literally stones, rocks, and pebbles. Rock collecting has been an enjoyable hobby for me since I was 10 years old and its no surprise I took the odd geology course at UGA.
